Los megaeventos deportivos en los BRICS: un cuestionamiento a su rendimiento

La apuesta de los países emergentes, especialmente de los BRICS (Brasil, Rusia,India, China y Sudáfrica), por la organización de megaeventos deportivos responde a una búsqueda de promoción política y económica internacional, así como a un deseo de reforzar en el plano interno la legitimidad política y la cohesión nacional. Partiendo de esta ideas, el presente artículo analiza hasta qué punto estos megaeventos han servido a los propósitos iniciales de los BRICS, en la medida en que no han expuesto sus fortalezas como se deseaba a priori, sino más bien una serie de debilidades, lo cual nos permite cuestionar la utilidad de los megaeventos deportivos como estrategia política y económica nacional e internacional.
