Pterosaur tracks in the Lower Cretaceous Enciso Group of the Cameros Basin (Spain)

Cameros Basin, Enciso Group, Lower Cretaceous, pterosaur subrectangular tracks, AzhdarchoideaAbstract
The pterosaur tracks in the Lower Cretaceous (Barremian-Aptian) Enciso Group (Cameros Basin) are very rare, being limited to a few footprints preserved in lacustrine deposits in the sites of Los Cayos (Cornago, La Rioja). Due to the lack of footprints, they were included in the ichnogenus Pteraichnus. New findings, which contain footprints, allow them to be classified into two morphotypes: A (U-shaped footprint), and B (V-shaped footprint) typical of ichnogenera other than Pteraichnus, although the lack of quality of preservation of the footprints does not allow the creation of new ichnogenera. Due to their morphometric characteristics and age, they resemble the subrectangular footprints (U-shaped) of pterosaurs from East Asia (China, South Korea), America (Mexico, Argentina) and Africa (Morocco), including them within the ichnofamily Agadirichnidae, such as aff. Agadirichnus isp., with which they share more characteristics. Its possible producerscould be located within the superfamily Azhdarchoidea, in the case of morphotype A and Ornithocheiroidea in the case of morphotype B.
