Abstract

Democracy has become a normative horizon without rival in the present world. From this perspective, its success also means the triumph of reformism. In spite of this, the relationship between political democracy and reformism inspired in socialism has been for most part of the twentieth century a frail and bewilder relationship. The article focus on the three dimensions historically forming the development of this relationship, theoretical, procedimental and sociological. The conclusion is that socialism and reformism share original motivation in emancipatory modernity ideals. Nevertheless, reformism is not properly a socialist account. The unmistakable practical outputs of the reformist Politics are mainly the successful and progressive implementation of the principles and rules of a liberal, representative and constitutional democracy.
