Abstract

This article contributes new material and information regarding the process derived from the coup d'état headed by General Sanjurjo on 10th August 1932. We consider that this coup, known as the sanjurjada, did not merit the number of pages dedicated to it by recent research, with respect to its relevance in the political development of the Second Spanish Republic. Investigating the roots and the people and events that shaped the uprising, we are able to supply some previously unpublished jurisprudence for the first time. The article ends on the slippery topic of the public pardon accorded to Sanjurjo, clarifying who was really responsible for the casting vote, which has always to date been attributed to the judge, José Antón Oneca.
