Abstract

Miguel Morayta (1834-1917) was a historian in transition between the model of Philosophical History of XIXth century, that dominated until Revolutionary Sexenio (1868-1874), and the historical method of XXth century. He taught and researched at University, but was a party historian, linked to republicanism, who developed his own method against the historical school of erudition, of conservative inspiration and monarchic, of Royal Academy of History and Diplomatic School. Morayta based his «historical science» in elements of Philosophical History —law of progress and prognosis—, and of historical method of XXth century —like positivism, moderate evolutionism and the social sciences as auxiliaries of the History—.
