Abstract

The paper analyses the meaning of plebiscitary democracy in Max Weber's work from the two dimensions from which he approaches it: 1) as the phenomenon of the transformation of political parties into bureaucratic and centralised organisations, and 2) as a type of power within his power typology-a type of combined charismatic and legal power. The carried out reconstruction of the concept is built on passages in the works not usually taken into account, leading to critical conclusions with the classical interpretation of the established concept by Wolfgang Mommsen.
