Abstract

n the contemporary world we experience the insufficiency of the politics of hospitality. Jacques Derrida’s reflections offer a helpful diagnosis of this experience: every politics of hospitality entails a violation of the ethics of responsibility. This paper analyzes the reasons for the insufficiency of the politics of hospitality, and explores potential strategies for developing an ethic of hospitality in the conditions of finitude confronting every human existence, notwithstanding the aporias uncovered by the deconstructivist perspective.
