Abstract

The approval of Organic Law 2/2024, of August 1, on equal representation and balanced presence of women and men (hereinafter, Parity Law) harmonizes in our country Directive (EU) 2022/2381, of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23 November on a better gender balance among directors of listed companies and related measures. Since our Organic Law 3/2007, for the Effective Equality of Women and Men, which already incorporated the principle of balanced representation, the next step in the political and legislative journey in Spain has been a long time coming, as in Europe, since the regulated matter: gender balance and equal representation in the power bodies of large companies has required the approval of other laws that would seriously modify the work, economic and social space of women in relation to men.
