Abstract

The Commission launched the European pillar of social rights in response to the Eurocrisis. In the frame of an increasing inequality in Europe and a decreasing effectiveness of national social policies, the European pillar of social rights was launched as an EU agenda on social rights, with a developed catalogue of social principles and specific avenues to implement them. The pandemic and the war in Ukraine relaunched the European pillar of social rights. Be as it may, the European pillar of social rights is a pragmatic approach to EU social rights since it is coherent with the scarce EU powers on social rights. Still, the European pillar of social rights might strengthen the social rights by lurching forward the European Social Charter and, with it, the EU Charter on Fundamental Rights
