Abstract

Approach to Spanish liberal nationalism during the 1837 constitutional regime through Madrid commemoration of the anniversaries of the uprising against the French in the May 2, 1808, the defeat of the absolutist insurrection of July 7, 1822, the establishment of the Constitution on June 18, 1837 and the triumph of the revolutionary movement on September 1, 1840. Organized only by the council of Madrid, its analysis reveals the continuation of constitutional nationalism of 1812, development of a nationalization process from below and from the local database, and importance as a mobilizing tool against the Carlists in the final stages of the civil war and also against moderates in power and their conservative revision of the political system.
