Abstract

Antonio de Capmany's presence in the Spanish debate about craft guild's control of labour and production in the 18th century, meant a significant contribution. His discourse on the need of graft guilds cleverly embraces both new and traditional approaches. He manages to combine successfully relevant issues of the political economy and philosophical anthropology existing at the time, with an advanced conception of history and a great concern with the social and political visibility of skilled workers. Regarding Spanish and European controversy over labour organisation in that period, this author represents a conservative option tinged with a certain amount of attractive ingenousness, that is, with a certain lack of prejudice which allows him to incorpórate arguments and proposi-tions of various origins.
