Abstract

In the summer of 1975, one year after the Revolution that overthrew the Dictatorship had taken place, a radical-leftist Government took office in Portugal. As a reaction, a broad popular movement sieged, assaulted and burned more than eighty head quarters of the Portuguese Communist Party in North and Central Portugal. This article tries to explain the conditions of this mobili-sation, and specially the reasons why it resorted to forcé. There-fore, in addition to analizing the reasons for anti-Communist ma-laise, the political context and the role of the State in collective action are examined as well.
