Abstract

Traditional historiography of Spanish fin-de-siécle Intellectual History has generally focused on inherently «Hispanic» develop-ments. This paper attempts to remedy this reductionist approaeh by exploring European influences on Spain's Qeneration of 1914, arguing precisely that such influences —Modernist in nature— dis-tinguished this generation's work from that of its predecessors and ultimately lent it its classical tenor.
