Abstract

There are two different kinds of intellectuals: those who conti-nuously write in mass media and those who correspond only with colleagues. Menéndez Pidal belongs to the second group. Despite his few journal articles and public speeches, he deeply influenced public debate in Spain. This essay is the summary of his few public contributions during the years 1902-1932, and it is concluded that, in spite of his brief interventions, his opinions set the course of public debate up to today.
