R. M. Azkue: nacionalismo cultural y posibilismo político.
Abstract
This article is about the relation of Resurrección María de Azkue (1864-1951) with the world of politics. Azkue, the first presi-dent of the Academy of the Basque Language (Euskaltzaindia), is specially known for his cultural work. However, his philological, folklorical and musical activities had the aim of renewing traditio-nal basque culture and making from it a modern cultural nation. Although Azkue wanted to avoid public politics, he had the desire to see his culturáis projects having influence on society, so it ca-rried him to have contacts with different political power groups. Azkue was politically flexible, but he specially tried, with no ex-cessive success, to get the support of Basque Nationalist Party (PNV) for his cultural projects.
