Abstract

The singular political scene built by Bourbon Restauration in Spain provided Claudio López Bru, second Marqués de Comillas, a propitious place for exerting great political influence with no need to affiliate to any party. Always from conservative thought, Claudio keeped an intímate relationship with the Spanish King. He exchanged favours with dynastic leaders, tried to lead catalán regionalism along the good way and above all, to give preference to catholic interests instead of political action. For this, the marqués used a strong pragmatism that conduced him to look for the monarchics unity on a common cause to stop the lefts rise. He keeped a relative moderation until 1917 events.
