Abstract

Between 1996 and 2001 in Argentina, there were two processes in the field of popular belligerence: a) the emergency of road bloc-king as form of contention, and b) the creation and strengthening of organizations that converged in the piquetero movement. My pa-per provides an analitical frame to understand the relation between «blocking roads» and the «piquetero identity». The conclusión is that throughout the period the process of construction of this identity was both a result of the identification with a specific type of protest politics —blocking roads— and of the activation of relations within the movement's organizations.
