Entre el antiguo y el nuevo régimen: el triunfo de los cuerpos intermedios. El caso de la Audiencia de Quito, 1765-1830
Abstract
This article studies the forcé and transformation of the Hispanic American municipal Corporation during the change from the Colonial to the Independent era. The specific case of the Audiencia of Quito clearly shows that the municipality did not change its tradi-tional features, despite the absolutist and liberal reforms; rather, all through the 19th century, it continued to represent the communita-rian autonomy before the State and to keep a part of the sove-reignty. The victory of these intermedíate corps on the State will be caused by both the forcé of the Ancient Constitution and other fac-tors connected to the crisis of the Empire.Downloads
