Abstract

This article, mainly based on bibliographical sources, examines the general evolution of historical and political interpretatíons of the Holocaust, with an special emphasis on the countries directly involved in World War II as well as the cases of Israel and Spain. The article shows how Spanish political evolution, from Franco's dictatorship to the actual democracy is highly related with the growing Spanish concern towards the Holocaust and genocides. One of the conclusions of the article is that information is not enough to prevent genocide. If we want to transform the 'Never Again' slogan into a real moral imperative, a true compromise, both individual and general, towards the past and present victims is needed. Historical knowing has to be completed with an effective political action both to prevent and to ask for responsibilities. In any case, democracy is a must.
