Abstract

The hegemony of the Moderates between 1844 and 1854 implies not only the exercise of power by the most conservative liberáis and the institu-tionalization of the military political role, but the protagonism of the well-to-do bourgeoisie, enriched thanks to the ecclesiastical disentailment, allied with the ranges of the aristocracy oriented to the business «virtues». The new Constitution (1845) and the Electoral Law (1846, with a small elec-torate: a constituency about the 1 per cent of the population) push the ex-perience to the very right of the political spectrum, shutting out the petit bourgeoisie, leader of the popular mobilizations.
