Abstract

This article presents a global evaluation of the work of Rafael del Águila, one of Spain?s most relevant political theorists of the last decades, placing him in the context of contemporary debates. As he states himself, his point of departure is the assumption of a pluralist perspective, both tragic and pragmatic, that reflects the limits that constrain political action. In accordance with that theoretical perspective, he proposes a view of politics that “is conscious of being without guaranties nor foundations”, and which confers a great responsibility to citizens, for it is up to them to decide –following their reflexive capacity and their exercise of political judgement– on the limits of what is tolerable in a given society and the path that it has to follow.
