Abstract

The paper examines and compares three economic crises: the Great Depression of the thirties, the crisis of the stagflation in the nineteen seventies, and the present financial crisis that has led the world into the so-called Great Recession. The paper offers also a review of these three international crises and explores their similarities and differences. The long term implications of the crises are discussed, because all big crises had been turning points after which significant changes in the functioning of the economies have taken place.
