The aura of General Espartero. Construction, deconstruction and appropriation of the charisma of a leader

The article traces the rhetorical and symbolic tools that prompted the construction and deconstruction of the mythical and charismatic aura of Baldomero Espartero, analysed from Weberian conceptual categories. War and politics were two main areas where diverse leadership models, developed within liberal political cultures, gathered and were compared. The analysis of both charismatic scenarios allow us to underscore the contradictions and appropriations that marked the fertile phase in the creation of stereotypes that began with the emergence of liberalism and modernity.Downloads
