Abstract

This article examines the relationship between railway workers and alcohol in Argentina during the first decades of the twentieth century. It focuses on the consumption practices and spaces, as well as the critical discourses and disputes that occurred within the trade union sphere. Specifically, it investigates how alcohol consumption and sociability practices among railway workers were influenced by gender tensions, norms, and societal expectations that assigned men and women to distinct roles and positions. Moreover, it explores how these gender dynamics shaped their involvement in anti-alcohol campaigns and initiatives.
