Abstract

The aim of the present paper is to highlight the “discursos de la vida” of the Inquisitorial documentation as a source for the study of the artisans in the Modern Early Period. This is an autobiographical source unique because can approach us the lived experience from the point of view of its protagonists, something fundamental to doing historiography from below. Through the analysis of the dossier of one of these artisans, trialled up to three times throughout his life, we will collate some of the most frequent topics that have attracted the attention of specialists in the world of work.

Author Biography

José Luis Loriente Torres, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid

Predoctoral researcher at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (FPU, Ministry of Universities), he is working on his doctoral thesis where he analyzes the "discourses of life" of the inquisitorial documentation as autobiographical manifestations. He has participated in the book Fernando Andrés, Mauro Hernández and Saúl Martínez (eds.), Mirando desde el punto. Estudios en homenaje alprofesor James S. Amelang, UAM Ediciones, Madrid, 2019.
