Abstract

The European Union is currently experiencing a transition from conventional methods of service of documents and taking of evidence to a new decentralised JUDEX computerised system. This system has been designed to enhance judicial cooperation in civil matters in accordance with Regulations (EU) 2020/1783 and (EU) 2020/1784. Since 1 May 2025, the JUDEX system has been the preferred channel of communication between the competent authorities of Member States, providing a flexible and secure environment for the exchange of judicial information and documentation. This mechanism is set to become the primary channel for the transmission of requests and documents in the European judicial area. However, its implementation is still pending due to the lack of uniformity among Member States in implementing JUDEX in their national systems.
