The COVID-19: the great opportunity to think and create better future societies

Abstract

The global scale and dramatic consequences of the pandemic caused by the COVID-19 offers us the opportunity to reflect, collectively, on the probable, possible and preferable social futures. Thus, we can start the path of building better and more desirable societies. The future is not set in stone. The sociology of the future and the future studies are the ideal space to combine visions with actions to generate better, more harmonious, and happier future societies.

Author Biography

José Antonio Rodríguez Díaz, Universidad de Barcelona

José Antonio Rodríguez Díaz completó su doctorado en Sociología en la Universidad de Yale (EE. UU.) con las becas Fulbright y Social Science Research Council, después de obtener un Doctorado en Economía en España. Es Catedrático de Sociología y ha sido director del programa de doctorado en Sociología y director del Departamento de Sociología de la Universidad de Barcelona. Ha sido profesor visitante en el Center for European Studies de la Universidad de Harvard, en la Universidad de Yale y en la Universidad de California
en Santa Bárbara. Sus investigaciones y publicaciones actuales se centran en el papel de las redes sociales en las organizaciones y sociedades, los estudios futuros y las dimensiones sociales de la felicidad. Estas líneas de investigación convergen en el estudio de los procesos de transformación y articulación de la felicidad en la sociedad moderna.
