The vocation of Spanish Academic Sociology. From the time of utopias to that of contrautopia

Abstract

This text claims that the asynchrony of Spanish academic sociology, which started at the wrong time and was consolidated off-beat, has been very positive in its development. On the one hand, it has had an influence in the social change of our country, comparatively speaking, bigger than those of the surrounding countries. On the other hand, it has been able to keep itself committed with reason, ethics and collective needs in an easier way. It is highlighted that it is important to preserve this legacy.

Author Biography

Manuel Martín Serrano , Universidad Complutense de Madrid

Catedrático de sociología de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid desde 1976. Teórico y metodólogo de las ciencias sociales, ha investigado el origen, las características y los efectos de los cambios sociales en cada uno de los estamentos sociobiográficos que componen el entramado social. En todos los casos ha diseñado, aplicado y validado modelos que relacionan las condiciones existenciales y las posiciones sociales de cada uno de los colectivos que componen el referido entramado social con los comportamientos, las creencias y los valores. La perspectiva sociohistórica y multidimensional que ha introducido Manuel Martín Serrano en estos campos está plasmada en su propia labor empírica, sistematizada en sus libros de teoría y metodología de las ciencias sociales y continuada por un numeroso grupo de investigadores españoles y extranjeros que con él se han formado.
