Familiar Landscapes of Inmigration
Abstract
Taking into account the data of the Population Census of 2001, we analyze four migratory models that are present in the Spanish society: the Chinese, the Moroccan, the Dominican and the Ecuadorian. Each of them is characterized by a specific combination of three main factors: different ways of labor insertion, gender relationships and family configurations. These combinations remit to the two essential dimensions of the immigration phenomenon: the temporary (migrants undergo different moments throughout their trajectory) and the spatial (their practices are structured by the symbolic and material tension between the here and the yonder). Depending on the elucidation of these models and their features we will be able to answer the questions that are arising about immigrant families: how and in which direction will they reproduce? What panorama is displayed to the new generations (second and subsequent) of their members?Downloads
