¿Es la inmovilización al campo lo que la movilización a la ciudad? Análisis de la participación política de la población migrante en los entornos rurales y urbanos europeos y españoles

Un aspecto desatendido en los estudios de migraciones es la integración política de los inmigrantes. En este artículo se aborda la participación política formal e informal de la población inmigrante en España y Europa desde una perspectiva comparada, prestando atención a un factor que ha sido poco explorado hasta el momento: el grado de urbanización del lugar de acogida de la población migrante. Se muestra que distintos tipos de participación política se asocian de forma diferenciada a los contextos rural y urbano: la participación formal está vinculada en mayor medida a los contextos rurales, mientras la participación informal es más frecuente entre los inmigrantes en los entornos urbanos. El caso español, debido a los procesos de ruralización que le son propios, se diferencia de otros contextos europeos, ya que la participación política de la población migrante, tanto formal como informal, es mayor en áreas rurales que en las ciudades.
