Cinemática de fallas normales menores tardi- post-variscas en la sección costera de la ría del Eo (N de España)

Resumen

En este trabajo abordamos el estudio de fallas menores de ángulos bajos a intermedios, frecuentemente extensionales, formadas sobre rocas metamórficas del Paleozoico inferior en un sector costero del noroeste peninsular. Todos los eventos de fracturación desde el final de la orogenia varisca hasta nuestros días se han producido en la zona de estudio en condiciones de corteza superior. La atribución de tipos de rocas de falla y de estructuras secundarias a los diferentes episodios tectónicos en la zona de estudio requiere, además de conocer las relaciones cartográficas de estructuras mayores, la consideración de la cinemática de las estructuras menores. Dada la dificultad de afloramiento de las grandes estructuras, las estructuras menores resultan clave para comprender y diferenciar los diferentes episodios tectónicos que han afectado a las rocas que ahora se encuentran en la superficie. En base a la orientación de las superficies de deslizamiento en fallas secundarias y a otros rasgos estructurales se pueden establecer tres orientaciones dominantes de extensión. La primera y más penetrativa, de dirección NO-SE, es coherente con grandes estructuras extensivas variscas tardías situadas al O: las fallas de Vivero y de Areoura. La segunda, de dirección NE-SO, es equiparable geométricamente a las fallas que cobijan las cuencas permotriásicas en el margen noribérico en el sector central de la costa Cantábrica. La tercera, definida por fallas N-S, es similar a la observada en estructuras cartográficas en el continente y en el margen continental noribérico y coherente con la apertura del océano Atlántico.
