Abstract

In his works, Habermas puts forward a model of deliberative politics, backed by a normative theory of democracy rooted in Discourse Theory. The model proposed has major advantages over other approaches of deliberative democracy, though it also has some limitations. The article attempts to analyse the connection between the Habermasian type of radical democracy and the design of deliberative politics; it looks at the peculiarities of such politics from the context of «turn to deliberative democracy », stressing its virtualities for a theory and practice of democracy and pointing out certain limitations, as well as putting forward some suggestions for possibly overcoming these.
