Abstract

The nationalization of politics has contributed to the fact that studies on political representation at the local level have not had much prominence in political science in Spain. Furthermore, few studies have addressed this issue from an empirical point of view. This research note describes the municipal representation within the Autonomous Community of Castilla y León. We analyzed the electoral results of all the municipalities of Castilla y León between 1979 and 2019, classifying the political parties according to their territorial scope. With this new approach, we provide data that support the nationalization thesis, observing a clear predominance of state-wide parties, a weak presence of non-state-wide parties and three pikes local-scope parties.
