Abstract

The «Operación Propaganda Exterior» (OPE, 1958-‍1961) was a secret propaganda operation of the intermediate Franco regime aimed to improving the image of the regime abroad, mainly in the US, given the previous context of the international blockade of Spain as a former fascist ally and as a dictatorship. It was also oriented to monitor and shape Spanish public opinion throughout modern methods of political propaganda. This article analyses the previous historical-ideological context of the OPE, as well as its nature, protagonists and development in its main areas: information, culture and cinema. The main achievement of OPE was Bronston’s pro-Spanish films.
