Abstract

In this paper I will examine two different questions, although narrowly connected: on one hand the debate on the state in Spain during the twenty century, on the other hand the real organization of the spanish state during this century. I will then try to analyze the concept of the state as much as its legal and institutional structure during a long period of time, which, as a matter of fact, begins with the stateman and politician Cánovas del Castillo and the colonial crisis of 1898 and arrives at the present days. For that reason the goal of this paper is only —it could not be another— to offer a syntethical approach, as clear as possible, of both questions, complexes indeed, during a very agitated century.
