Abstract

This article aims to analyze the similarities and differences of the concept of nation in José Antonio Primo de Rivera, founder and leader of Falange Española, from that used in Vox, a radical right party. First, Spanish nationalism is introduced as the main source that helps understand the positions of José Antonio and Vox. Secondly, the concept of nation in José Antonio is studied as a manifestation of fascist ultranationalism, considering its relationship with other elements of Falangist thought, such as the empire or the «pending revolution». Thirdly, the concept of the nation in Vox is exposed, analyzed as a radical right ultranationalism based on unitarianism, catholicity and ethnic and cultural homogeneity. Finally, the factors of continuity and discontinuity between the fascist ultranationalism of José Antonio and the radical right ultranationalism of Vox are pointed out.
