Abstract

The advancing European integration poses fundamental questions for the various national traditions of legal scholarship. With a particular view to the German case, these questions will be unfolded in a first step, which will show how legal scholarship is affected by the political project of a European research area, the dynamics of a European legal area and, in this context, by leading American law schools. In a second step I will submit considerations for dealing with these challenges, namely by an intensification of comparative legal analysis, a Europeanization of methods and a pluralisation of the disciplinary identities.
