Abstract

The grave fall in the public opinión of King Juan Carlos I, for various motives finally led to his abdication from the throne. In this article, the various aspects of the abdication are examined (personalities, order of events, surrounding institutions) such as the protecting statute that was enacted for the abdicating King Juan Carlos I, unique to all the European monarchies. Finally, this work comments on some of the consequences the abdication of Juan Carlos I and the succession of Felipe VI have caused and can cause in the future inside the Spanish Royal Family.
