Abstract

The EU experienced an enlargement of its material competences, as well as its law became more precise and complete. However, there is still a grey zone dealing with the spatial application of EU law, in particular, its extraterritorial application in areas located beyond the State sovereignty. This study tries to offer a vision on the application of the EU law in one of those areas, the continental shelf, which legal problems have arrived to the Court of Justice, combining international norms and State interests creating situations of a certain legal lack of definition.
