Abstract

Eduardo García de Enterría, the great Spanish jurist who died a few months ago, successfully rose to three challenges: Working under an authoritarian political regime, he managed nonetheless to impose a liberal conception of administrative law and thus facilitated Spain’s democratic transition; he conferred Spanish administrative law with its own specific identity; and, finally, he founded a Spanish school of administrative law that now holds international influence and prestige.
