This article describes and analyzes the presence of women in the national and regional governments between 1996 and 2019. First of all, as an introduction, the concepts of parity and parity democracy are examined versus the concept of quota, as one of the categories of positive action implemented by social states to counteract the effects of certain discriminations. In the second part, in light of the state and regional regulations about political parity and the quantitative data hosted on various institutional websites, the evolution of the percentage of women in governments is exposed and the incidence of legal regulation on their increase and consolidation in the last two decades. Finally, some legislative proposals are pointed out to achieve political parity in the executive branch.
