Abstract

This article presents an analysis of the municipal censalistas of Lleida between 1695 and 1725, paying special attention to the variations that happened within the context of the Succession War and the implementation of the new municipal Bourbon regime. This work shows the strong weight that the Catholic Church had in the credit market. There was also an aristocratization of private investors, according to the one that also took place in the entire political system of the new century.

Author Biography

Gabriel Ramón-Molins, Universitat de Lleida

PhD in History from the University of Lleida. His thesis focused on the study of municipal credit in the region of Lleida in the Ancien Régime. He is an associate lecturer in the Department of History at the University of Lleida, a collaborating lecturer at the Universitat oberta de Catalunya and a member of the research group on the history of rural societies. His current lines of research focus on private agrarian credit networks in the 18th century.
