PARKING POLICY IN THE CITY: EXPERIENCES OF AND CRITERIA FOR THIS

Abstract

One of the most vital elements in any coherent urban traffic plan is an effective parking policy. This paper analyses various methodologies used to design local parking strategies. It gives a number of different projects which have put into practice a variety of approaches to the problem. It is rounded off with a brief description of the main interventions that have been carried out within metropolitan Madrid:.,park and ride., car parks in the inner city, resident car parking, and time meter control in the city centre.
