Abstract

This paper anins to present the main findings of research carried out by the authors for the Regional Planning Office. Its general purpose was to consider transport in low-density areas as a tool in the Regional Planning framework and to apply the conclusions, to the specific case of Sierra del Segura (Jaén).
A study method for territorial characterics and special issues related to transport in rural low-density areas has been developed: this method allows for an assessment of needs and definition of policies. As a first step the validity of several matters with a bearing on have been reviewed. The Spanish law and international experiences.
Seven areas have been studied and the general conclusions suggest that transport services can become important means towards specific goals in Regional Planning for low-density areas.
