Peri-urban territorial dynamics of the Spanish Mediterranean coast cause the highest number of incidents due to natural risks in Spain. They are complex, hazardous and vulnerable spaces, with a significant presence of the territorial component, and that require urgent attention from the administrations. They are therefore a magnet, and at the same time a challenge, for geographic analysis. This paper identifies its main problems and weaknesses, considering the human environment. Methodology uses bibliographic analysis and empirical observation in river basins in the province of Malaga. In some study areas, diachronic analyzes of natural risks, land use, and territorial patterns have been realized. Result is a list of problems that facilitate the spatial planning and management of the spatial scope of work in relation to the risk of floods. In some study areas, different studies have been carried out, such as diachronic analyzes of floodability and erodibility of soils, of channel morphology, land use, territorial patterns or urban planning. The result is a list of problems that serve to improve territorial planning and management.
