Abstract

The paper states the "urbanization process" or drift to the cities of the Spanish population as having been extremely accelerated in the 60s. Said dynamic is here seen to have exacerbated historical and environmental inequalities as between her regionally distributed populations and to have shaken up the organization of her settlement structure. Over the last two decades, the aging of the population along with a change in the nation's economic model has led to a new phase in her urbanization process marked by an easing of city growth rather than any noteworthy changes in the overall distribution of population centres. The paper argues that planning when coming to grips with a local level geo-demographic issue must bear in mind how age groups structure any given population as this will have a prime incidence in any urban structuring or dynamic.
