Abstract

The paper draws attention to the massive changes as to rural-urban relationships throughout Western Europe in the decades of the very recent past. Counter-urbanization and turnaround migration have given rise to new developments in many rural areas. Traditional phenomena which resulted in depopulation have been reversed and ruralization or population growth of these same areas has been observed. The paper's focus is upon Counter-urbanization and the planning responses employed to meet it in two distinct but similar regions of Atlantic Europe.
