Abstract

The paper sees the international economic crisis of the seventies as having given rise to an economic restructuring process that had affected the system at all its levels and areas of responsibility. Along with this, a growing interest in the industrialization of rural areas has been observed. The question as to whether this latter process, be it as to the interior or exterior, is giving rise to new model of development or not that will make possible a more balanced territorial framework as well as stimulate hitherto backward areas is discussed. The paper makes an analysis of the industrialization process in the specific area of the Mesa de Ocaña (Toledo). Its experimental findings are contrasted with the various theoretic interpretations as to the question, after which, conclusions are drawn.
