Abstract

The paper explains how the complex present day interelations as between industrial activity and available city ground could well be seen to have led to a distinctly polarized dividing up of the metropolitan area. This notwithstanding, the economic crises of recent decades. along with the efforts made by capital to adapt. through restructuring, to the new economic situation that these have led to, has thrown up a new model for business organization, this in its turn showing itself spatially in a spreading out in certain fields of set ups towards the outskirts or medium sized cities, the which, of necessity has led to a reshaping of the hitherto cutomarv aspect of the region. Given this state of affairs, the paper attempts to analise the behaviour of Jsevilian industry and that of the towns round about it, seeking in doing so to discover whether, in a medium sized and as yet little industrialized urban conglomeration such as that in question. behaviour in industry can be observed that would lead on both to a greater development of that sector and/or changes in the face of the region.
