AUTOMIZED CITY TRANSPORT. THE FUTURE NOW

Abstract

Congestion, no longer being a phenomenum proper to the great cities has now spread down to the middle-sized and even the small ones. Even such infrastructures that have been built to answer an urban need for greater quotas of mobility and access cannot meet these calls, the paper seeing only in Public Transport any remedy for these overall short falls. Though new modes of transport have recently been tried out, it is here felt that the immediate answer must be but a bettering of such classical means as are to hand and that an up-dating of the underground railway could figure largely among these. Automated driving aids have been slowly brought in of late until totally automatic driving has been achieved. The paper goes into the MATRA, UTDC and AEG-Westinghouse variants of this.
